Worship & Nurture | Christian Education | Mission | Administrative | Group Leaders

Worship & Nurture

The Worship & Nurture committee is responsible for the leadership of worship, education and training. Some of the duties involve: working with the minister in planning special services, and acting as a liaison with the choir/organist. Some of the ministry committees that fall under Worship & Nurture are:

  1. Outreach committee

The role of outreach is to welcome new visitors and new members, to provide them with information, and to help them assimilate into the life and work of the congregation. We also advertise within the community and among groups outside the Church.

  2. Music Ministries   >> click to view information regarding our Choirs

  3. The Sunshine Guild   >> meet the Sunshine Guild

The Sunshine Guild, is designed with a mission objective and a social twist. All women of the church are invited to attend. Meetings are held the second Tuesday of every month from September to June at 7:30 in the Heather Room.

Some of the events are fundraisers, but others provide an opportunity to work together and to get to know one another. Anniversary Dinner, Spring Yard Sale, Frosty's Frolic and lunches are some of their events.

  4. The Goforth Auxiliary (WMS)

The Women's Missionary Society, Western Division (the "Goforth Auxiliary") is involved in local and world mission through prayer, study, service and fellowship. This group meets monthly and also attend Presbytery and Synod annual events.

Christian Education Committee

Christian Education is run by the Christian Education Committee. In close relationship with the minister, this committee is responsible for all areas of Christian Education. Groups falling under the Christian Education Committee are:

  1. Church School

Individual classes are provided from Junior Kindergarten to High School. Classes are held during the Sunday morning worship service. The Christian instruction is tailored to each grade level. The Nursery is set up for toddlers under four years of age. It is supervised by volunteer mothers.

  2. Youth Group

The St. Andrew's Youth Group organizes a variety of events throughout the year. We are always looking for new faces between the ages of 13 and 19. Come out and join us in fellowship and fun!

  3. Vacation Bible School

This summer ministry draws children from the church and the community together to learn about God in a unique way. Held during the summer for one week. Ages 4-11 are involved in bible stories and crafts from 9:30 to 12:00.

  4. Bible Study

Available for all levels of Christian knowledge, from beginner to advanced:

    • Advanced Bible Study: An in-depth study of the Bible
    • Morning Bible Study: Discussion of themes and books of the Bible and their relationship to modern Christian experience.

  5. Drama Society

This group uses Drama to minister to the congregation as well as to provide entertainment to enhance the social perspective of the church.

Administrative Committees

  1. Kirk Session

The Kirk Session is the governing body of the church. It is responsible for establishing good order, and it provides for the pastoral care of the congregation. The Kirk Session consists of the Minister and Elders. At present, there are 38 active Elders, each of whom has a district that consists of several church family members. Regular visitation by the Elders ensures that appropriate communication is maintained, and that the members feel they have direct input in the running of the church through their Elder.

  2. Stewardship

This committee encourages the congregation to offer time, talents and financial support. Active participation in our church, both personal and financial, is welcomed at any time. But in addition, there is a Stewardship Visitation to the whole congregation each Fall, - a special opportunity for our people to review and update their commitments to their Lord, through personal and financial involvement here at St. Andrew's. The Stewardship Committee organizes and supervises this visitation with the help of some forty volunteer visitors from the congregation. The visitors, and the congregation itself, typically find the experience a thoroughly positive one. They get to know each other better, and they get valuable input into the needs and desires of the congregation, and valuable suggestions for improvements.

  3. Trustees

The Trustees are elected by the congregation. They have responsibility to administer the Memorial and Manse Funds, and to attempt to maximize income from both.

  4. Finance

The Finance Committee is responsible for supervision of the revenues and expenses of the church. Its mandate includes preparation of the annual budget, and presentation of this budget to the congregation at the Annual Meeting each February. At this meeting, the congregation may make such changes to the budget as it sees fit. Finally, the budget, amended as required by the congregation, is approved. The Finance Committee then carries out its responsibility based on this budget. If significant unforeseen expenses arise in the course of the year, expenses which the budget did not anticipate, additional meetings of the congregation may be held on two weeks notice to discuss the situation and to reach appropriate decisions.

  5. Maintenance

The maintenance of the church is overseen and arranged through this committee. Major repairs and seasonal projects are scheduled when required.
