The beacon

Firstly let me THANK YOU for a wonderful Christmas. All your well wishes and acts of kindness have touched Ida’s and my heart...THANK YOU THANK YOU!!

Now, the first week of January is all about the start of the New Year. We hear that annoying “Buzz” word again and again-- “resolution.” This is the time of year that the world looks at itself and decides that there is a need for some change. Intentions are great; attitudes are ripe for harvest and we are all open to the concept. However, as the year grinds on, our resolutions become old hat. We find ourselves feeling awkward if we hear that word “resolution” or someone calling to question how ours are coming along (sometime after the third week of January).

Even though that awkwardness is there, God has made the questioning something to consider: should the believer just be limited to “first week” January resolutions? Is making new year’s resolutions an appropriate focus for the believer?

There is reason for the believer to be encouraged at the start of a new year. But not

JUST then; the Christian can be encouraged all the time because new starts are not just limited to January. God has given us the opportunity to have a lifetime of new beginnings by His grace!

YES, BUT! Yes, it is appropriate! But, there is one caveat: we don’t have to wait until the New Year comes. In fact, we shouldn’t!! Our resolutions, our resolve for change, should not be contained in a single cold month in the winter!

God gives us a new beginning every time we bring our failures under the forgiving blood of Christ. We have a fresh start!--a new opportunity to get up and serve our Lord. We have infinite new beginnings because we have infinite forgiveness in Christ. Be encouraged! There is a new start for you in the Gospel!

So forget about January—forget about those New Year’s resolutions—forget about the guilt of not living out those changes (vowing to do better next year)... Live life today! Do you want to live life differently TODAY? Then Christ says that you can...that is why He came at Christmas as a baby and

why He later died on a cross for you. EVERYDAY can be your resolution day if you want. Don’t lock your resolutions and desire to change behind January’s doors! Start now and continue throughout the whole year of 2010! TODAY? Then Christ says that you can...that is why He came at Christmas as a baby and why He later died on a cross for you. EVERYDAY can be your resolution day if you want. Don’t lock your resolutions and desire to change behind January’s doors! Start now and continue throughout the whole year of 2010!
