It’s March and the Beacon will be available on line again this month. It should be up by dinner time. It has taken a lot of tries on the part of a lot of people but the goal was finally accomplished early in our 120th year. Thanks to all who persevered and got this task accomplished. Whether you’re reading this on line or in hard copy we are in the middle of lent heading towards Holy Week and Easter. At the opening and the conclusion of this edition we have articles on Lent. Lent has been out of favour in the Protestant world for some time now. It was taken more like a joke of what we denied ourselves than the Christian reason for self denial. After you have read these two submissions I hope you will have developed a more mature idea of this season. |

For the past two weeks we have wept and cheered with our Canadian athletes as they carried the pride of Canada into their event. Now each and every athlete faces a decision. To retire or to continue training. Do these special Canadians have a message for us? Can the Olympics speak out to us about our faith? Discover for yourself on page # 9. Next Sunday is our Lenten Communion, and I have devoted 4 pages of the Beacon to Holy Communion. Communion is an important part of the worship service (some churches call these high holy days) and I hope you will take the time to read the articles and ponder the ideas in them before coming to the Lord’s table, next Sunday. Each Sunday morning, we watch and listen while our young people come to the front of the church. Last fall I visited with the classes and you’ll find the pictures of the children in this edition on pages 10 & 11. They are a fine |

group and I hope you enjoy seeing them here in the Beacon. There’s also a small article about a trip one of our student members is taking. These young people sure make us proud as we read about their accomplishments
Check out page #8 and see who dropped by with good wishes.
Denise has gone way off her usual beaten path in her poem this month. I hope you enjoy this side trip on ‘Denise’s Poem’ by line. Louise shares photos of her Pastoral Care visits this month. We are most grateful for Louise's efforts in keeping our shut in’s ‘in touch’ with their church. The kitchen team is off and running with a report on the reno of our downstairs kitchen. They have taken on a huge burden. Read about our part in the reno effort here in the Beacon.
There’s a lot here in this edition of The Beacon and I hope you enjoy the read.
